Glauber settlement a bad precedent

January 31, 2010

Re a Jan. 22 article, "Orthodox cop who faced likely firing quits":

Former Ramapo Police Office Baile Glauber received more than $400,000 of taxpayer money in a settlement. I'm having trouble with the math here: A probationary employee making approximately $35,000 a year quits and gets a $190,000 payout, and the town pays $285,000 for her legal fees?

The Town of Ramapo was forced to open a Pandora's box in regards to days off for religious observances, which will no doubt cost the town even more. She was suspended and the police chief recommended her termination, which under a probationary period should be quite easy. Yet the town — and taxpayers — give her a settlement worth more than $400,000?

Anyone involved in the hiring process, and settlement process, should be gone, today. This is shameful. Think of how much relief $400,000 could provide for Haiti.

Leaders give away our money, land

February 2, 2010

Re a Jan. 22 article, "Orthodox cop who faced likely firing quits" and a Jan. 26 article, "Ramapo OKs Patrick Farm project, angers residents":

Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence and the Town Board are actually giving away the taxpayers money and land in Ramapo. How much longer can taxpayers put up with him giving things to those who do not deserve them? We gave away almost half million dollars of our money to a rookie cop who had not completed the probationary hiring period. Then the Ramapo Town Board allowed down-zoning at the Patrick Farm site on the border with Pomona. The people of the town of Ramapo must stop electing officials who give away our hard-earned money. Now St. Lawrence wants to be lieutenant governor; let's not elect a man lieutenant governor who will give the already broke state of New York away.
