Shame on those who can, but don't, vote

Letter to The Journal News Nov. 11, 2007

I am beyond disappointed in the apparent apathy of Rockland County voters.

Since I waited in line to vote at 6 p.m., I hoped that countless others would do the same. The message was out there stronger than ever by Preserve Ramapo: "We need your votes."

I know, especially at a local level, how important it is to vote and in this case, get Ramapo Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence ousted. His power is growing, thanks to special-interest groups. At one time, St. Lawrence had reported he was a graduate of Harvard University. Not anymore.

Thanks to all the wonderful and persistent people in Preserve Ramapo. Thank you wonderful folks who took the time and voted. To the rest, shame on you.

I'm losing hope that Ramapo can be kept intact.

I hold St. Lawrence ultimately responsible for tactics to get votes and confuse voters. Hopefully, no one fell for the "Vote Row A" signs that were crafted to look like Preserve Ramapo's signs.

Registered voters beware: St. Lawrence won again. He won't be town supervisor forever, so what's his next political stop? Wake up!
