Melé: Speaking truth to power

Printed in The Journal News Oct. 31, 2007

I have experienced all the good and bad that accompany a campaign. Win, lose or draw, it has been my profound privilege to be your candidate leading this fight. Along the way, I have discovered there is nothing that is wrong with Ramapo that cannot be solved by what is right with Ramapo. I endured slander for the courage of my convictions because name calling was all my opponent had to offer for my speaking truth to power. I have a thick skin and a value for life that comes with risking it to protect others. The 100-day plan is:

1. Restore a legitimate government by putting people over politics.

2. Commission a forensic audit to ascertain our true assets and liabilities.

3. Convene a council of village mayors, creating dialogue between the villages and town.

4. Publish an independent state-of-the-town report.

5. Form committees to address our 10-point platform plan.

6. Hire grant writers to acquire additional funding for community needs projects.

7. Reconstitute our code enforcers and zoning boards with a renewed impetus.

When you enter the voting booth Nov. 6, ask yourself this question: "If I were in mortal danger, which one of these two candidates would I trust by my side?" Then vote for the person who you think would put the welfare of our town above personal ambition. I am asking for every vote in the Town of Ramapo, irrespective of party affiliation. Help save Ramapo from becoming the City of Ramapo.
